SQL Server Database Administrator – SQL DBA
£60K – £65K + Excellent Package
An excellent opportunity has arisen with a big brand based in Surbiton for a SQL DBA. The successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance and performance of the SQL Servers. This is a hands-on role requiring proven technical skills, as well as excellent communication and documentation skills. In addition to the role foundations above there will be strong collaboration with the in-house development team to advise on best practice.
Role of the SQL Server Database Administrator
Key tasks and duties of the role are as follows:
•Establish full understanding of the current SQL Server application and use thereof by internal users and external customers through the various platform interfaces and back end processes
•Work along-side the in-house development team to understand active and future development needs involving database operations
•Implement metrics to actively monitor key components of the databases and appropriate sensors and alarms to pro-actively manage them
•Train other members of the Operations team to support you and the best practices you implement when taking ownership of this area.
•Maintain documentation on database schema and best practice guide.
•Monitor database growth and predict future growth to suggest future hardwaresoftware requirements
•Perform Windows Server Administrator operational duties as required to support the running of the databases
•Innovate and experiment with new technologies to optimise our database schema and be mindful of what could make it better tomorrow
•Support the database backups, high availability, disaster recovery processes and update existing documentation to reflect current and future changes to operating procedures
•Responds to incidents to avoid system outages or restore availability to meet service level objectives
•Perform problem determination, problem resolution, and root cause analysis.
•Perform patching ensuring minimal downtime and leveraging HA services where currently available
•Provide your experience in support to user raised tickets relating to SQL based lab exercises

Requirements of the SQL Server Administrator
•Minimum of 3 years’ experience performing Microsoft SQL Server administration duties
•Specific involvement with:
oWindows Server Operating Systems – 2012 and above
oMicrosoft SQL Server – Installation and Configuration
oMicrosoft SQL Server – High availability technologies (Always On)
oMicrosoft SQL Server – Backup and Restoration
oDatabase Disaster recovery
oDatabase Performance Tuning
oT-SQL optimization
oReporting writing and Ad-hoc data manipulation
oExperience working with Virtualisation technology (VMWare)
•Leadership and collaboration skills
•Ability to articulate complex problems in simple terms
•Ability to train and teach others verbally and through documentation of procedures

Additional Skills (non-essential):
•MSCA SQL Server Qualifications
•Knowledge of BI applications e.g. (Qlik)
•Knowledge of Redgate SQL Tools
